Ildiko Nagy
The New England School of Whole Health Education
In 1987, Ildiko Nagy, a
native of Hungary, came to the U.S. to pursue educational
and political freedom. Although trained as a clinical psychologist,
she spoke almost no English. Her lack of language skills forced
her to accept a position as a domestic day worker to make
ends meet, while taking English classes. Ildiko applied for
political asylum and in 1992 became a U.S. citizen. As a single
parent of a 10 year old boy, Ildiko holds two Masters degrees,
a M.S., and a M.A., both of which she earned without any financial
support. Every Saturday for the past two years, she has made
a 5-hour (one-way) trip by bus from New York, where she lives,
to Boston returning the same day. Ildiko is training to become
a Whole Health Educator at The New England School of Whole
Health Education and graduates in June of 2001. In addition
to her full-time job as a Recreation Therapist, Ildiko had
to work an extra job to afford to continue her education.
