Terrence Townsend
Institute for Environmental Education
At the age of 33, Terrence
Townsend from Canton, MA., found himself out of work in a
field he greatly enjoyed. Terrence had eleven years of experience
but felt he needed more education in the environmental field
in order to gain a higher-level permanent position. He went
to the Metro South/West ETA Career center and received a federal
grant to attend the Institute for Environmental Education
(IEE) full-time. While attending IEE, Terrence excelled in
the classroom and was offered a position as an Engineer Technician
at GZA GEO Environmental in Newton, MA. In September of 2000,
Terrence completed his lead apprenticeship program, received
his Massachusetts Lead Inspector license and transitioned
into an Environmental Technical Specialist position. Last
year Terrence received the distinguished performance award
from GZA. Terrence is also a motivational speaker on the weekends
at the BIFF Paradigm that helps motivate kids in school, as
well as a musician and part-time music producer with an interest
in promoting positive music to empower young adults. Currently
Terrence is working towards receiving his Asbestos Project
Monitor and Management Planner licenses.
