Lucille Pringle
RETS Technical Center

RETS TECHNICAL CENTER is pleased to nominate LUCILLE PRINGLE, who resides in Dorchester, for an Outstanding Achievement Award. Like many others, Lucille lost her job after 9/11. She saw this as an opportunity to pursue her dream of being a Medical Assistant. Lucille was accepted in the Medical Assisting Program at RETS and started in October 2003. At first, she struggled with her studies. After all, she hadn’t been to school for over thirty years. Lucille said, “The other students were so much younger and I wasn’t sure if I could keep up." Then, while on Christmas break, Lucille underwent two major surgeries. She began to worry about completing the course. She went to the school to drop out and ran into her instructor, Ms. Olivar, who explained the Medical program was undergoing some exciting changes and encouraged Lucille to continue. So Lucille decided to give it a try. Her grades improved and her fellow students elected her Lab Safety Officer. She loved the position as it helped her learn more about the lab and help other students, too. Lucille says, “I want to thank Ms. Olivar and the other staff members for their love and support. I know I am setting an example for my children and grandchildren. Hard work will pay off one day, and a better life is in our future. I hope my receiving his award will inspire others, young and old, not to give up on their dreams, they are truly within your reach." Lucille has certainly demonstrated the tenacity and ambition to overcome hardships and turn adversity into opportunity.
