Michael Kane
George W. Gould Construction Institute

Michael Kane, from Abington, MA., is preparing for a career as a licensed Refrigeration Technician. One of the education requirements necessary to be eligible to take the state examination is completion of 150 hours of electrical code. Michael's employer, L.C. Anderson, enrolled him in the third level of the George W. Gould Construction Institute electrical program. This level of the electrical program is dedicated to calculations for branch circuits, transformers, conductor selection and motors. The course also includes relevant topics on motor controls, electricity in HVAC systems and related National Electrical Code requirements. Michael joined a group of electrical students who are employed as electrical apprentices with a minimum of two years field experience and had already completed 300 hours of electrical code and theory. This is a challenging course for a student without an electrical background. Michael's instructor, Mr. Sheldon, indicated that he has many outstanding students in his class, however, one student stood out. Michael showed tremendous interest and participation that enhanced the overall learning experience in the classroom. His positive attitude, outlook and growth experience during the year put him at the top of this instructor's recommendation for student of the year. Michael was driven on how much he could learn in order to further his career not by company reimbursement policies. The Gould Institute is pleased to honor Michael Kane as outstanding student of the year and we look forward to following him as he climbs the career ladder.
